North of the South (NZ Day 12)

Have been busy lately and haven't gotten myself time to blog about the trip to Aotearoa. School's reopened for three weeks and things are piling up quickly for the final semester. But on the brighter side, I'll be going to Malaysia with my family for a road trip up to the far north for 3 days! Ah, more things for the blog to come.

Okay, back to New Zealand for day 12..

24/09/2011

A warm and sunny morning of 11 degrees Celsius greeted us on our 12th day in New Zealand. We went to the bus terminal after breakfast and boarded the bus that went to Picton.

The bus terminal.

As usual, we waited for everyone, including a couple of late comers, to board the bus and the driver to do a headcount before leaving Nelson. The drive out of Nelson is a stretch of road along the bay. The light winds created some nice small ripples on the still water.

The boat listed its right on a low tide.

The highway turned right inland and we were gradually traveling away from the shore.

A spot of sunlight on the grass field.

Noticed a strange row of shoes being hanged by the roadside. Wonder what are they for?

Lone tree up on the hill.

We were in the Malborough wine region soon after and lots of vineyards, both small and very large ones are seen very often. Famous here is the Sauvignon Blanc wine.

Passing by Blenheim, the sign pointing the direction to Picton.

Another one of the very very big vineyards.

Welcome to Picton!

On our way to the accommodation.

The blue-themed accommodation that we stayed for 2 nights.

We went in saw nobody at the reception so we waited a while until someone came. I told him that I reserved two nights here and after some talking he said my name wasn't in the reservation logs! I told him I emailed over and had received a confirmation.

Then out of nowhere a woman appeared and sounded so over friendly and asked what was happening. We explained everything to her and she, being so friendly, apologised for the mistake and offered a free upgrade to an entire self-contained apartment for us. It was really kind of her to do that. The people in NZ are really so hospitable and friendly!

After leaving our belongings in our apartment, we went out to look for lunch.

High Street, where most of the shops and eateries are.

After passing by a few shops we ended in one called Le Cafe. Interesting name and they had good food too.

The tables outside the cafe. The Malborough Sounds behind it.

After lunch, we went back to our apartment for a short rest then went out for a short walk at the Victoria Domain.

Enormous toilet signs!

Going over the bridge from the town of Nelson over to the Victoria Domain.

Looking at the many boats and yachts.

Seems like many rich people live here!

Information board at the foot of the hill at Victoria Domain.

Considering that we had a lot to walk the next day, we just took a leisure stroll on the harbor view walkway.

Waikawa from the hill.

The sounds far beyond the Picton Harbour.

Walking back down by another track back to Picton.

Happen to see an aluminum can recycling cage on the way back.

Back at the road outside our apartment.

The first day in Picton already made me love this place. Though small, it's peacefulness and beauty is just mesmerising.
